Name the decision, not the job title.
Are you deciding on hiring, investment or financing? Start by identifying the decision currently held back by missing financial information.
Check the input quality.
Forecasts built on an incomplete close can conceal important uncertainties. Assess the underlying records before commissioning a large model.
Choose outputs you will actually use.
For example, agree a cash-flow forecast, margin analysis and regular discussions of variances. More spreadsheets do not automatically mean better decisions.
Define who makes the decision.
External financial support needs a clear mandate. Distinguish advice, approval and payment execution.
Review value through better decisions.
After the initial period, ask whether cash is clearer, deviations from plan are understood and the next decision rests on explicit assumptions.
